Scotland’s national poet, or “Makar,” has sparked a cultural row after joining the SNP.
Liz Lochhead said she had been “inspired” by new First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to become a member.
Now composer James MacMillan has called for Ms Lochhead, who was appointed Makar in 2011, to resign.
The post receives a stipend of £10,000 from Creative Scotland, the government-funded arts agency.
“Creative Scotland regard this post as non-political and she was appointed by a cross-party group of the First Minister and former first ministers,” Mr MacMillan said. “There is public money involved.”
