Greens double membership

Surge: Green Party membership has doubled since the start of the year, which leader Natalie Bennett hailed yesterday as proof voters will reject “business as usual” at next year’s general election.

The party now has more than 27,618 signed-up members and plans to field candidates in at least 75 per cent of constituencies.

Ms Bennett said: “These new members are putting their grassroots efforts and their financial support into making the 2015 general election transformatory.”

Civilian police staff vote for strikes

Industrial: Police staff in England and Wales have voted to take strike action after suffering a two year pay freeze.

Unison members, including 999 operatives, police community support officers and scene of crime officers, voted by 60 per cent in favour of a strike, results showed yesterday.
