IRELAND: The entire island will be under weather warnings tomorrow due to Storm Eowyn, with forecasters advising high winds will bring a “danger to life.”

The Republic of Ireland’s forecasting agency issued a nationwide Status Orange wind warning for between 2am and 5pm on Friday.

Met Eireann said: “Gale force southerly winds becoming westerly will bring severe, damaging and destructive winds with gusts of up to 80mph widely, with even higher gusts for a time.”

DR CONGO: The M23 rebel group’s advance toward Goma has displaced more than 178,000 people in the past two weeks, the UN said.

The UN humanitarian agency said on Tuesday that the new mass displacement was caused by fighting around Minova in South Kivu province.

The provincial governor of South Kivu, Jean-Jacques Purusi, confirmed the capture of Minova, saying that the rebels have also taken several other mining towns in the province.

YEMEN: The Houthi government said today that it has released the crew of the Galaxy Leader, a vehicle carrier seized in November 2023 at the start of their attacks on shipping in the Red Sea corridor over Israel’s Gaza genocide.

The Houthis said they released the sailors after mediation with Oman. Hamas had also requested the release of the ship's crew of 25, who included mariners from the Philippines, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine and Mexico.

“This step comes in support of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza,” the Houthis said in a statement.

AUSTRALIA: Detectives are investigating whether foreign actors are paying criminals to commit anti-semitic attacks in the country, police said today.

“We believe criminals-for-hire may be behind some incidents,” Federal Police Commissioner Reece Kershaw told reporters in Canberra.

“So part of our inquiries include: who is paying those criminals, where those people are, whether they are in Australia or offshore, and what their motivation is,” he said.
