GREECE: Greek authorities say they have found 39 survivors and the bodies of two women on the small, remote island of Farmakonisi after a suspected migrant boat sinking.

The coast guard said the migrants and bodies were found this morning. The vessel used to reach the island from the nearby Turkish coast was not found.

RUSSIA: Moscow claimed today that a deadly missile attack on Ukraine’s Sumy which killed and wounded scores, including children, had targeted a gathering of Ukrainian troops.

Ukrainian officials said two ballistic missiles hit the heart of Sumy, a city about 20 miles from Ukraine’s border with Russia, killing at least 34, including two children and wounding 119 on Palm Sunday morning.

SOUTH KOREA: The ousted former president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, appeared for the first time at his criminal trial today on high-stakes rebellion charges.

Mr Yoon’s decision to declare military rule and deploy troops to Seoul streets in December made him the country’s first president to be indicted while in office. If convicted of rebellion, he could face a life sentence, or theoretically the death penalty.

TURKEY: Judicial officials rejected an appeal seeking the release of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu from jail today pending the outcome of his corruption trial, the country’s news agency reported.

Mr Imamoglu, a prominent opposition figure and a key challenger to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s rule, was detained on March 19 and formally jailed on corruption charges four days later.

His arrest is widely perceived to be politically motivated, aimed at sidelining a major rival ahead of presidential elections scheduled for 2028.
