Jonathan Walters gave Stoke City just their second win in the league at home this season as Mark Hughes’s side beat Swansea 2-1 at the Britannia yesterday.

Wilfred Bony and Charlie Adam both scored from the penalty spot in the first-half before substitute Walters secured the points for the home side after the break.

Stoke went into the game unbeaten in their previous three Premier League home fixtures against the Swans, winning two and drawing one of the games.

But it was the away side who had the opportunity to take the lead inside10 minutes, Ki Sung-Yueng failing to find the back of the net after some lovely flowing football from the Welsh side.

The Potters countered quickly with Adam who launched an effort from 22 yards that flew just wide of Lucas Fabianski’s goal.

But the deadlock was eventually broken on 34 minutes when Ryan Shawcross pulled down Bony in the area.  The Ivorian stepped up to take the resulting penalty sending Asmir Begovic the wrong way.

The visitor’s lead lasted just nine minutes, Victor Moses going down far too easily under a challenge for Angel Rangel just inside the box.

Referee Michael Oliver immediately pointed to the spot and Adam stepped up to fire the ball past Fabianski who failed to get a hand to the ball having guessed the right way.

Neither side offered much in the way of attack after the break until substitutes Oussama Assaidi and Walters combined, the Irish international heading home the Moroccan’s cross from 12 yards outs to give the home side the victory.
