BRAZIL: Four people died today after a fire at a shelter for the homeless in a city in south-eastern Brazil, Sao Paulo’s secretariat for public security said.
A man was arrested at the scene, the statement said, adding that a witness saw someone setting fire to a sofa before trying to flee.
The case was registered as arson, homicide and attempted homicide with Sao Jose dos Campos’s judicial police.
NORTH SEA: An oil tanker and a cargo ship collided off the coast of Britain today, setting both vessels on fire and triggering a major rescue operation, emergency services said.
At least 32 people were brought ashore, but their condition was not immediately clear.
CANADA: Former central banker Mark Carney will become Canada’s next prime minister, as the country deals with United States President Donald Trump’s trade war and annexation threat, and a federal election looms.
Mr Carney, elected by the governing Liberal Party on Sunday, replaces Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation in January but remains prime minister until his successor is sworn in.
Mr Carney won by a landslide with 85.9 per cent of the vote.
