GERMANY: German police released an initial description today of a suspect wanted in connection with a knife attack on Tuesday at a gym in the western city of Duisburg that left four men seriously wounded.

Police described the man as being about 30 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall, of normal build and with a long black beard.

Investigators were still considering a possible motive, but they said it appeared this was not an indiscriminate attack.

UNITED STATES: Social justice activists called for widespread police reforms while marching through the streets of Akron on Tuesday, a day after a grand jury declined to indict eight police officers who fired 94 shots at Jayland Walker, a black man killed after what started as a traffic stop.

Protests following Mr Walker’s death and the release of body camera footage of the shooting led to daily protests last summer.

PHILIPPINES: The Philippines blocked today the United States from stockpiling weapons on bases in their country that could be used by the armed forces of Taiwan.

Foreign affairs secretary Enrique Manalo said the nation would not authorise US troops to refuel, repair and reload at bases in the country.

FRANCE: French publisher Editions La Fabrique called on British police today to cease their investigation into Ernest Moret, who was arrested on his way to the London Book Fair and questioned for hours on Tuesday about his involvement in protests against the French government’s pension reforms.

Mr Moret was freed on Tuesday but had his phone and work computer seized by police and was told to return to the United Kingdom in four weeks.
