Ali slams polluting Capco’s Earl’s Court plans

GREEN Party deputy leader Shahrar Ali launched a scathing attack yesterday on Capco’s multibillion-pound demolition of Earl’s Court in London at the expense of the environment.

He said that the Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre’s demise showed up everything wrong about how property developers were able to “call the shots” while local and regional government betrayed the people they were meant to serve.

Capco’s approved £8 billion plans include the demolition of two council estates.

“What’s to like about residential stacks marketed at already asset-rich investors and out of reach of the ordinary Londoner desperate for a quality home?” Mr Ali asked.

“What’s to like about increased air pollution on top of already dangerously high levels across the capital, with greater traffic pollution to come?”

His comments preceded a peaceful protest by Earl’s Court Action Group campaigners outside Kensington and Chelsea Council from 6pm tonight.
