SCOTTISH Labour leader Anas Sarwar said today that someone must be held accountable for child deaths linked to contaminated water at a super hospital in Glasgow.
SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon was asked about the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) scandal during First Minister’s Questions.
Two children died at the facility with a waterbourne infection. One family learned about the probable cause of death from a newspaper, while Mr Sarwar warned that the relatives of the other child have “almost certainly” not been found.
An independent review concluded that there were significant failings around infection prevention and control, governance and risk management at the QEUH.
Mr Sarwar said the FM’s response has not been good enough.
“The only people that have paid the price for this scandal have been the families and the whistleblowers,” he said.
Ms Sturgeon said the government is taking the issue seriously and is determined to ensure that families get answers, adding that extensive efforts had been made to contact the second child’s relatives.
