‘Athens now capital of hope’ says lecturer

MORE than 300 people packed a TUC rally on Wednesday night in solidarity with the new Greek anti-austerity government.

The crowd heard Syriza national committee member Stathis Kouvelakis speak alongside Labour MPs Jeremy Corbyn and Katy Clark.

Mr Kouvelakis said an electoral victory was not the end goal for the Greek people.

“Athens has been the capital of pain and suffering, now it is the capital of hope,” he said.

The lecturer also remembered the tenure of Salvador Allende in Chile and said neoliberal powers would spare no expense to smother the new Greek government.
