Sport in brief: March 13, 2022

Men’s football: York City from the National League North beat Dagenham 7-6 on penalties after a 1-1 draw to cause the only surprise of the FA Trophy quarter finals.

They are joined in the semis by three teams that are pushing for promotion to the Football League. Wrexham lexft it late to seal a 2-1 comeback win over Notts County, Bromley saw off Solihull 3-1 and Stockport won 3-0 at minnows Needham Market.

Men’s football: The New Saints have won the Cymru Premier title with seven games still to play after they drew 3-3 with Penybont.

Second-placed Bala beat Flint 3-2, Newtown won 4-0 at Caernarfon, Haverfordwest thumped bottom club Cefn Druids 6-1 and Cardiff Met won 2-0 in Aberystwyth. Relegation haunted Connah’s Quay, who were recently deducted 18 points, saw off Barry Town 2-0.

Men’s football: Glentoran’s disappointment at being thrown out of the Irish Cup semi finals for fielding an ineligible player was eased by a 1-0 win in Dungannon that moved them second in the Irish Premiership.

Linfield still lead the pack after Ethan Devine’s injury time winner earned a 3-2 success over Crusaders. Carrick lost 2-0 at Glenavon and Portadown boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ballymena.  

Men’s football: Reigning champions Shamrock Rovers squeezed past Bohemians 1-0 to top the Irish Premier Division, having scored one goal more than second-placed St Patrick’s, who won 2-0 at bottom club Finn Harps.

Sligo Rovers moved up to third after winning 3-0 in Drogheda and Shelbourne drew 1-1 with Dundalk. Derry’s game at UCD was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
