Petition to fly Palestinian flag at council HQ

A PETITION was raised at the full meeting of Bradford Council last night to fly the Palestine flag on City Hall on November 29, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

A group of five petitioners addressed councillor, saying: “There is no statue of limitations on justice and without justice we cannot have peace. The beautiful people of Bradford, Leeds and other areas have marched and rallied against the genocide and supported sanctions, boycotts and divestment from Israel.

“The small act of raising the Palestine flag has already been done on November 29 in other councils including Burnley and Rotherham,” they said.

The petition called on councillors to hold a vote on raising the flag. This was rejected by the council’s deputy leader, Councillor Imran Khan, who recommended the petition be referred to the city solicitor, a suggestion backed by the council.
