Peace protesters take Gaza rally to Welsh Labour conference and Keir Starmer

HUNDREDS of peace campaigners marched on the Welsh Labour conference venue at the weekend, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Stop the War Cymru (STW) and Palestine Solidarity Campaign Cymru (PSC) organised the Llandudno rally to pressure the Welsh government to join calls to end the genocide in Gaza and stop arms sales to Israel.

Campaigner Sara Roberts said it was beyond comprehension “that we have had to stand outside the Welsh Labour conference and challenge our elected representatives to support calls for peace in Gaza and the Middle East.

“Shame on Starmer who as a human rights lawyer knows the legal definition of genocide.”

STW Cymru co-chair Libby Nolan said: “We were handed a leaflet when we arrived at the conference centre this morning naming the dead children in Gaza and to their shame, some delegates refused to take them.

“Shame on me for being a member of the Labour Party. I say to Starmer and our First Minister that they need to show some bravery as leaders to stand up against the genocide in Gaza.”

Ms Nolan called on Labour to end the arms trade with Israel and said: “To stay silent is to be complicit.”

CND Cymru chair Dylan Lewis-Rowlands told the protesters that the Labour Party is a moral crusade or it is nothing.

He said: “Israel is a nuclear state and we cannot underestimate the role this plays, because if it didn’t have nuclear weapons I do not believe the United States would be supporting it in the way that is.”
