ELEVEN museums, libraries, archive and history groups are looking for trade union backing for a national partnership to mark the centenary of the General Strike next year.

Gawain Little, general secretary of the General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU), co-ordinating the project, said: “The 100th anniversary of the 1926 strike is a critical celebration of the power of workers to defy government and grow union consciousness across the country.

“This partnership is about amplifying and promoting the excellent plans of many organisations across the country. We are looking forward to 2026.”

There are plans for an interactive map of organisations and sites for the public to visit throughout 2026, including exhibitions and events.

A printed passport will encourage people to visit as many locations as they can to collect a stamp, with commemorative merchandise helping to support fundraising efforts.
