JSO protester, 78, recalled to prison over wrist strap ‘overjoyed’ to return home

A 78-YEAR-OLD retired teacher who was recalled to prison because no electronic tag that fit her wrist could be found is “overjoyed” to have returned home, her brother said today.

Gaie Delap, from Bristol, was jailed last August for 20 months for taking part in a Just Stop Oil protest in November 2022.

Ms Delap was recalled to HMP Eastwood Park after a health condition prevented her having the device attached to her ankle.

Today her brother Mick said that she was released last Friday after a wrist strap that could secure her tag was produced.

“It is worth pointing out that nearly 10 weeks after Serco/EMS claimed that the 15cm wrist strap was not secure enough to allow her to remain properly monitored at home, she has in fact been fitted with the same size,” he added.

Ms Delap climbed an M25 gantry as part of a Just Stop Oil action calling for the government to end all new licenses and consents for oil and gas projects.
