CHARITY Turn2Us launched a new tool that helps people claim Personal Independence Payment (PIP) today.
Nearly one in three disabled people in Britain live in poverty, facing additional costs averaging £1,010 more per month than non-disabled households, according to disability charity Scope.
PIP is designed to help disabled people and those with long-term health conditions with these extra costs, but the National Audit Office reported that some £870 million goes unclaimed each year.
Created in partnership with PIP claimants and charities, including Mind and Disability Rights UK, the new tool tackles application barriers with step-by-step guidance.
It provides award estimations and supports users’ mental wellbeing with videos and reminders that reduce stigma and isolation.
Jo, who lives with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), helped build the tool.
She said: “It gives clear, practical advice that helps you understand how to frame your answers properly.
“The tool’s checklists and guidance turn an overwhelming process into something much more manageable.”
