BLACKLISTED construction workers will tomorrow meet the chair of the spycops inquiry.
Members of the Blacklist Support Group, Unite and the FBU will meet John Mitting following revelations that Special Branch supplied the blacklist with information on trade unionists.
Blacklisted bricklayer Frank Smith said there were “questions we need to know the answers to.
“How many unions were infiltrated by undercover police officers?
“What happened to the intelligence gathered by the police spies after it was received by Special Branch?
“Was the information … shared with employers and used for blacklisting?”
Mr Smith asked if the inquiry did not answer those questions then “what’s the point of us continuing to participate in what is shaping up to be an Establishment cover-up?”
Imran Khan QC, who represents the Blacklist Support Group, welcomed the meeting, saying it was “imperative” that core participants had faith in Mr Mitting “and we hope that this is the start of that process.”
