JUST STOP OIL (JSO) supporters slow-marched through luxury department store Harrods today in protest against the government’s continued licensing for oil, gas and coal projects in Britain.
The activists were held placards on an escalator in the Knightsbridge shop as march of a number of actions held on the day.
Some 34 supporters marched in six groups in Hammersmith, Victoria, Westminster, Kensington and Tower Bridge from around 8am, with a further four from 10am including Parliament Square.
Four people were arrested, including Reverend Bill White, who has been arrested three times this week while taking part in slow marches.
It is the latest in daily protest action that has been organised by the campaign group since April 24, as it calls on the government to end new fossil fuel licences.
Protester Judy Judkins, a grandmother of three from Preston, said: “I’m pursuing other legal methods to make changes but still think it’s necessary to be on the streets.
“We are in an emergency and I’m marching in the same way as those who won us universal suffrage, decent working conditions and LGBTQ+ rights to name a few.
“This is how we change the political conversation.”
