Arts Ahead: Crouch Touch Pause Engage

LIVERPOOL/TOURING THEATRE Crouch Touch Pause Engage Playhouse Theatre Williamson Square

This play by Robin Soans tells what happened after Welsh rugby legend Gareth Thomas, on the eve of one of the most important games of his career, received a warning that the the Sun “newspaper” was going to out him as gay.

It’s a story of two Welsh names bruised, but not beaten, by media speculation — Thomas, now the world’s most prominent gay sportsman, and his hometown, Bridgend.

A resonant mix of sport, politics, secrets, life and learning to be yourself, the play is directed by Max Stafford-Clark and is produced by the estimable Out of Joint and the National Theatre of Wales.
