Yorkshire and north-east flooded with protests

CAMPAIGNERS in Yorkshire and north-east England are staging a number of events this weekend including a multicultural festival in Newcastle, an anti-austerity demonstration in Scarborough and a Save Hartlepool Hospital march.

The End Austerity Now march in Scarborough today assembles outside the Brunswick shopping centre at 1pm.

Newcastle Unity Festival, also today, takes place in Leazes Park from 1pm to 8pm.

The festival will celebrate togetherness, tolerance and unity throughout the north-east.

Tomorrow Save Hartlepool Hospital march will call for the restoration of health services to University Hospital of Hartlepool. Assemble at Seaton Carew bus station for 11am.

On Tuesday evening Teesside People’s Assembly’s first post-election gathering will provide a space for discussing what happened in the election and its implications, also build for the End Austerity Now national demonstration in London on June 20.

The meeting runs from 7.15pm to 9pm in St Mary’s Centre, 82-90 Corporation Road, Middlesbrough.
