State pupils to get coding lessons

CODING should be for the masses and not just for the ruling classes, the Sutton Trust charity declared yesterday as it launched schemes designed to improve social mobility in the tech sector.

Research has found that there are major barriers stopping poor young people from pursuing a career in this area.

Now 220 state school pupils from less well off homes will be offered a range of coding lessons and activities.

Sutton Trust chairman Sir Peter Lampl said: “We need to make sure that opportunities are available to all young people, not just those from better-off backgrounds.”
