Reed was just four off the pace after a round of 71, but the US golfer faces a hefty fine after being caught on camera swearing at himself.
Television commentators swiftly apologised after Reed was clearly heard saying: "Nice fucking three-putt you fucking faggot," after a bogey on the first hole, his 10th of the day.
FOOTBALL: Former Barcelona club president Jose Nunez lost his final appeal yesterday against a court verdict that sentenced him to two years and two months in prison after being found guilty of bribing tax inspectors.
Judges told the 83-year-old Nunez to report to jail within 10 days after rejecting his appeal to remain free until the government hears his request for a pardon.
Nunez, a construction firm owner, was Barcelona president from 1978-2000.
CRICKET: Mark Ramprakash was confirmed yesterday as England's new batting coach, replacing Graham Gooch who stepped down in May.

Ramprakash will work across all formats of the game, starting later this month with the one-day series in Sri Lanka.
