All-out strike against privatisation: August 11

AN ALL-OUT strike by staff at a leading gallery in a row over privatisation of services has been brought forward.

Members of Civil Service union PCS at the National Gallery in London will now launch an indefinite stoppage from August 11, almost a week earlier than planned.

The gallery has appointed Securitas as its partner to manage some visitor-facing and security staff services.

A statement said it was one of the last major national museums and galleries to appoint an external partner to manage these services.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “It is extremely disappointing that while PCS continues to try to reach a negotiated settlement, gallery management has pressed on with privatisation without any further engagement with the union.”
