Vince Cable slams ‘extreme’ cuts

Tory spending plans would “destroy” public services, Con-Dem collaborator Vince Cable warned yesterday.

The Liberal Democrat Business Secretary’s comments came after increasing coalition tension, with Mr Cable telling his officials not to engage with Treasury work on cuts for the next Parliament.

Mr Cable claimed that Chancellor George Osborne’s continued cuts were “veering off to extreme ideology.”

Clearly anticipating the Lib Dems’ annihilation at the election, Mr Cable said that the coalition “would be almost halving the spending of local government in areas like social care.”
