TIME ran out yesterday for Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games organisers hoping to head off protests over hated sponsor Atos.
Campaign group Glasgow Against Atos (GAA) had threatened disruption of the internationally televised ceremonies unless organisers offered a public apology by midnight on Thursday.
But the deadline passed without comment — despite multiple warnings.
Protest organiser Sean Clerkin told the Star: “It’s all go now. We won’t stop for anything.”
IT giant Atos has tried to boost its public image by sponsoring software for international sporting events, but campaigners have fought to expose its role in deadly cuts to disability benefits.
A string of scandals and wrongful sanctions have arisen from Atos’s contracts to quiz sickness benefit claimants for the Department of Work and Pensions.
Paralympic athletes silently protested at 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony by hiding their branded lanyards from cameras.
Mr Clerkin said the escalation would begin on Friday immediately following GAA’s lunchtime picket of Atos’ Cadogan St offices.
