Nigeria: 52 killed in Boko Haram twin attack

TWO suspected Boko Haram bombings in north-eastern Nigerian city Maiduguri left at least 52 people dead yesterday.

Two bombs exploded outside a mosque in the Borno state capital before dawn, killing at least 30 people.

National Emergency Management Agency co-ordinator Muhammed Kanar said that 20 people were also wounded.

And at dawn four female suicide bombers blew themselves up when challenged by soldiers as they tried to enter the city, killing themselves and at least 18 other people.

President Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday he expected the “final routing of Boko Haram as an organised fighting force” by the end of the year.

Nigeria’s army chief of staff Major-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai indicated a major offensive was imminent.
