Norfolk refuse workers strike

REFUSE workers in Norfolk announced plans yesterday for strikes over pay and blacklisting.

The Kier Refuse Services workers, on contract to Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council, will strike for half a day on Thursday September 4 and for a day on Wednesday September 10, following their request for a 4 per cent pay increase over 12 months. Management insisted on 1.75 per cent over 15 months.

Their union GMB is also in dispute with Kier UK-wide over their failure to compensate workers they blacklisted.

GMB regional officer Glenn Holdom said: “The company offer of 1.75 per cent over a 15-month period is not acceptable to our members and they view this as the straw that has broken the camel’s back.”
