Baby competition winners donate prize to help refugees

A COUPLE who won a Birmingham Baby of the Year competition are using the prize money to help refugees in the face of callous disregard by David Cameron’s Tory government.

Six-month-old Sachi Porter won the competition run by the Birmingham Mail with a prize of £60 in shopping vouchers.

Her parents Ekta and Kerwin Porter will use the prize money to help refugees.

The couple said they were deeply moved by the death of three-year-old Syrian refugee Aylan Kurdi, who drowned trying to reach Turkey.

“We are extremely lucky to have Sachi and she is fortunate enough to be blessed with all the necessities and luxuries in life,” said Ms Porter.

“In light of this, and of the extremely sad circumstances in which young Aylan lost his precious life, we have decided to buy groceries, toys and clothes with the prize money and donate them to a worthwhile cause that will help the refugees.”
