Police hospitalised after Notting Hill attack

TWO police officers were rushed to hospital on Monday after they were attacked while trying to make an arrest at London's Notting Hill carnival, Scotland Yard reported yesterday.

A 33-year-old Pc was found at the junction of Lancaster Road and St Luke’s Road at around 3.15pm with injuries to the head and torso.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “The officer was on duty at the location for the Notting Hill Carnival when he was alerted to suspected drug dealing.

“He was assaulted when attempting to arrest the individual.”

He has since been discharged from hospital.

Colleagues came under attack when they came to help him, the force said, and a 35-year-old woman officer received torso injuries. She was taken to hospital but released yesterday.

A man has been arrested for affray.

As of 2am yesterday there had been 157 arrests over the course of the second day taking the total for the two-day event to 261.
