London Tube drivers came out “rock solid” in a strike in solidarity with a sacked colleague yesterday, transport union RMT said.
Northern Line driver Alex McGuigan was dismissed by bosses who circulated a rumour he was “drinking on the job” — a claim the union says is “totally untrue.”
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “Our members are standing rock solid, shoulder to shoulder with their victimised colleague and as we have said all along the union is determined to secure a just and fair outcome to this dispute.”
And he attacked Transport for London for using its website to urge commuters to “replan journeys” while spreading “dangerously misleading propaganda” via the BBC and other media platforms that there was a “good service” on the route.
“This kind of misleading spin simply sends people down into deep Tube stations that are already dangerously overcrowded.
“It’s time to stop the propaganda and restart serious and meaningful talks,” he added.
