Duke's son tip top for a jammy £10m win

Racing: Your guide to this weekend's action

AND so the Scoop6 rolls on with Britain’s biggest bet likely to be worth over £10 million.

Is it value for money? Well, you have to be in it to win it is my only answer there and having got to the fourth leg two weeks ago I shall be pitting my wits again.

The final leg will be the Silver Bowl at Haydock at 3.45 and I have a strong fancy for the progressive Bilimbi////////.

William Haggas has always thought a lot of this son of Duke of Marmalade and he has cemented those thoughts so far in his career.

A winner of his third start in a soft ground maiden at Yarmouth, he kick-started his second season with an emphatic strong galloping success at Musselburgh on ground that was very much on the fast side of good and that came off a handicap mark of 83.

I thought that the assessor would pummel him for that win, but seven-pounds extra is a right result — especially as we can assume the ground is likely to ease considerably in the run up to the race and we could have a group horse on our hands later in the season.

A top price of 5/1 could be a distant memory once the stalls open and that should be taken as soon as possible. Of course with 17 declared to run, luck in the race will be of paramount importance and others set to be suited by the set-up of this contest and the impending rain are Braidley (may need the run on his seasonal debut), What About Carlo and Pupil to name but three.

The second of those was hugely impressive when winning off 85 at Sandown last month after which the German Guineas was the call, but a nine-pound penalty still gives him every chance here if, as his trainer expects, he comes on a lot for the run.

Pupil has been racing in Group Three and Listed company against the likes of Pinzolo and Kingston Hill last term and behind Barley Mow in the Newmarket Stakes this year. A return to this surface should help although a slot in stall 15 is a negative.

The Group Two Temple Stakes at 2.40 will also be determined by the extent of the forecast ran at the track and if the ground does deteriorate as expected I think that Pearl Secret can bounce back to form.

He was never really letting himself down on the fast ground at Newmarket last time out, but will be better suited not only to the likely ground here, but also the flatter Haydock track and can fire through late to take the honours ahead of Hot Streak and Sole Power.

Better weather is expected at Goodwood so I expect Pether’s Moon to open his seasonal account in the Listed Tapster Stakes at 2.20. His run behind Gospel Choir has since been cemented and he has Gatewood to worry about most.

Elsewhere, Juvenal (Beverley 5.25), Showboating (Catterick 2.50) and Continuum (4.05 Goodwood) should all give us a god run for our money.
