Great Britain’s Adam Peaty won gold in the men’s 100 metres breaststroke yesterday at the Aquatics World Championships in Kazan, Russia.
The 20-year-old City of Derby swimmer was trailing Cameron van der Burgh for much of the final, with the South African under world record pace at the turn.
However, Peaty overhauled Van der Burgh in the final 25m to win in 58.52 seconds.
Van der Burgh was second in 58.59secs and Britain’s Ross Murdoch claimed the bronze medal in 59.09.
