COUNCIL staff in Bromley, south London, are to conduct a fourth wave of strike action against the privatisation of public services.
Members of general union Unite will walk out for 48 hours on Tuesday. On Wednesday they will join strikers from Barnet Council, who are also resisting privatisation, for a rally in Parliament Square at 1pm.
Inside Parliament, Chancellor George Osborne will deliver a post-election Budget expected to contain a further £3.3 billion cut in government funding for local authorities next year — equivalent to 12 per cent of their budgets.
Bromley’s Conservative-dominated council plans to reduce the number of council employees from 4,000 to 300 through redundancy and privatisation.
“Our campaign has taken to the streets and won massive support from the Bromley community,” said Unite regional officer Onay Kasab.
“People do not want their services privatised.”
He urged the public to join Wednesday’s rally.
