Chelsea 3 Sporting Lisbon 1

AMAR AZAM watched the Blues ease past Lisbon in a comfortable performance at the Bridge

Jose Mourinho is relishing the prospect of what lies ahead after his Chelsea side waltzed past Sporting Lisbon in this Champions League encounter.

The Premier League leaders place in the last 16 of the Champions League was already assured ahead of the match on Wednesday night.

They go into Monday’s draw for the next round where they will face either Juventus, PSG, Basle, Bayer Leverkusen or Shakhtar Donetsk.

"We don't fear anybody but we know there are very good, strong teams in this competition," said Mourinho, who saw his team win against the Portuguese side with goals from Cesc Fabregas, Andre Schurrle and Jon Obi Mikel.

"Last year we were close and we didn't have the team playing at such a high level as we do this season, so we can dream we will do it.

"But let's see if the sharks let us because there are a few sharks in the ocean."

The match as a contest was all over after Chelsea, who secured their passage into the knockout stages with victory over Schalke in the previous game, took an early two-goal lead.

Fabregas, playing in a more offensive role in a much-changed Chelsea forward line, scored the first, a penalty kick, after seven minutes.

Schurrle added the second on 26 minutes when he struck a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Sporting pulled a goal back early in the second half as they attempted to secure the draw that they needed to progress through. However, Mikel completed the scoring in the second half. Their opponents did little to warrant taking anything from the match.

Chelsea return to domestic action this weekend when they host Hull City. Mourinho’s men will be looking to bounce back from their first league defeat of the season against Newcastle United last week
