James Taylor will captain an inexperienced England one-day side in Ireland next month, with five uncapped players named in the squad yesterday.
With the Test team arriving back from the West Indies just one day before the May 8 fixture and World Cup skipper Eoin Morgan at the Indian Premier League, England have been forced into a bold selection.
Taylor will lead the side in Dublin in just his 18th one-day international, while Zafar Ansari, Sam Billings, James Vince, Lewis Gregory and David Willey are all in with a chance of making their senior debuts.
They have all been named in an 11-man squad that will be topped up with players who do not make the cut for the third Test in Barbados.
Wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow, currently in the Caribbean as cover for Jos Buttler, has already been included in the 50-over squad and could be joined in Ireland by the likes of Adil Rashid, Mark Wood and Liam Plunkett, should they fail to force their way into the Test side.
Having disappointed so comprehensively at this year’s World Cup, England hope to turn to these players to lead a push towards the 2019 tournament on home soil.
The most experienced player in the squad is Yorkshire seamer Tim Bresnan but the 30-year-old won the last of his 84 in March 2014.
