Labour calls for universal gender ‘pay transparency’

LABOUR will call for universal “pay transparency” in Parliament today to address the growing gender pay gap.

Outside the Commons, supporters of the campaign will hold a rally with famous feminist activists as the vote takes place.

“Women are losing out on hundreds of thousands of pounds because they still earn less than men over their lifetime,” said shadow minister for women and equalities Gloria de Piero.

“It’s time the Tories and Lib Dems demonstrated their commitment to delivering equal pay and vote with us.”

New figures released by the opposition show that, on average, women earn over £200,000 less than men in their lifetime.

Today’s rally will be co-hosted by fashion magazine Grazia and with speakers including the original Dagenham Ford factory strikers Gwen Davis, Sheila Douglass and Vera Sime.

Employers such as PricewaterhouseCoopers and Genesis Housing will also speak in favour of making companies’ pay gap public.
