FOOTBALL: Wigan midfielder James McArthur’s FA Cup winner’s medal from his side’s victory over Manchester City at Wembley in 2013 has been stolen in a burglary at his home.
Two wedding rings were also stolen — shortly before the Scottish international is due to get married.
The 26-year-old said: “I am devastated, as is my fiancee. The medal is priceless for me and this is a real blow to us to happen just before the wedding.”
CRICKET: Middlesex remain top of County Championship Division One despite a complete washout in their match against Sussex at Northwood.
Both teams take five points for the draw, which was confirmed without a ball being bowled despite best efforts to dry out the pitch after three days of heavy rain.
The London club are therefore 15 points clear of Somerset and Yorkshire.
RUGBY UNION: Argentina flanker Juan Manuel Leguizamon will captain the Barbarians against the England XV on Sunday at Twickenham, in a side boasting more than 700 caps and drawn from nine different nations.
Lions lock Donncha O’Callaghan will make his Barbarians debut.
Head coach Dean Ryan said: “Juan Manuel Leguizamon commands respect as a player, he’s led the Pumas in Tests and he’ll do an excellent job.”
BASKETBALL: The New York Knicks will return to London for the second time in three years when they take on the Milwaukee Bucks at the O2 Arena in January.
The two teams will tip-off on January 15 in an NBA regular-season game.
“Our NBA games in London have had a strong impact not just in the UK but also across Europe, and have proven to be a fantastic platform for our partners to connect with fans throughout the region.”
