Offshore union Unite has called for more action on helicopter safety as the first of four rig workers killed in a crash last month was buried in Inverness.

Offshore union Unite has called for more action on helicopter safety as the first of four rig workers killed in a crash last month was buried in Inverness.

Gary McCrossan died on August 23 along with Sarah Darnley, Duncan Munro and George Allison. Ms Darnley’s funeral will be held on Monday.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has so far found “no evidence” of technical failure.

But Unite Scottish secretary Pat Rafferty said its preliminary report did nothing to alleviate the fears of offshore workers.

“It’s not just about whether the Super Puma fleet is airworthy,” he said.

“More urgently it’s a question of whether they are fit for the safe transportation of people to and from offshore installations.”
