Manchester protests at cuts to women’s services

Protesters will take to the streets of Manchester tomorrow to demand an end to cuts to services supporting vulnerable women.

“The coalition government has slashed front-line services for women and children escaping gender-based violence,” said organisers Safety4Sisters.

Manchester City Council says it needs a further £60 million in savings because of cuts from Westminster.

“This is devastating. Some of the most vulnerable women and children are facing an uncertain future as specialist and related support services struggle to survive,” said the group.

“These services in Greater Manchester and around the UK literally save women’s and children’s lives.”

Services include legal advice, women’s refuges and other domestic violence support.

The protest takes place at St Peter’s Square, from 12 noon to 2pm.
