THE last union fighting for compensation for blacklisted workers was granted a month’s adjournment yesterday in the trial of the blacklisters.
Unite had been due to continue its challenge in the High Court on Monday, but asked for the suspension after its co-complainants GMB, Ucatt and solicitors Guney, Clark & Ryan (GCR) settled compensation with construction firms.
The Information Commissioner’s Office, which discovered the blacklist during a raid in 2009, has also made a late disclosure of evidence, which Unite wanted time to analyse.
“Unite still represents about 90 members whose jobs were ruined and lives turned upside down by the blacklisting scandal,” said Unite.
“The key question that has to be asked of the construction firms, which made an unprecedented admission of guilt last October, is why have they not yet settled?
“Unite continues to seek maximum compensation and justice on behalf of our members following those admissions.”
Lord Justice Supperstone granted an adjournment until Tuesday June 7.
