TEN people were injured when a double-decker bus crashed into a shop on a south London high street yesterday morning.

The vehicle hit the Poggenpohl Kitchen Design Centre on Lavender Hill, near Clapham Junction railway station, shortly before 7am.

Five ambulance crews, two paramedics and an air ambulance were sent to the scene where seven people were treated. The bus driver and two others were taken to hospital.

Nurse Amy Mullineux, who had been travelling on the number 77 bus said, the driver told her he had lost consciousness before the crash.

She said: “The paramedic told me they think he had some kind of fit.”

Another person recalled a passenger screaming as smoke came from under the vehicle and there was “a lot of blood.”

Solange Morin, who witnessed the crash, said: “I saw this woman shouting and banging on the glass. I went onto the bus. I talked to her and was holding her hands.”

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said two people were “priority” cases in a stable condition and one had minor injuries.

Transport for London said a full investigation had begun.
