Daniel Cockrill - The Road to Wigan Casino

Well Versed is edited by Jody Porter

The Road to Wigan Casino
Daniel Cockrill

pass through arched canal path
warehouse and wharf
pit shaft and mill town
burn it down

suck in smoke choked filled
Sunday morning amphetamine fuelled
rhythm and blue hue
Seven days is too long without you

two quid in
rare disc demo spin
no moonshine no firewater no alcohol
just guts dance and Northern Soul

two tone Spencer peg clobber
twisted industrial youth truth
as you flip kick backdrop
to knees and pray

as Dean Parrish sings
I’m on my way

Daniel Cockrill is a founding member of the weekly poetry event Bang Said the Gun. He has two books of poetry entitled Pie and Papier-Mâché and Sellotaping Rain To My Cheek published by Burning Eye.
