Intelligence: Pakistan ‘special circles’ behind Kabul attacks

AFGHAN intelligence agents claimed yesterday that Pakistan was involved in the attacks in Kabul last Friday that killed almost 50 people and wounded hundreds.

National Directorate of Security spokesman Hassib Sediqi claimed that Afghan authorities had confirmed “Pakistani military interference” in the attacks.

“Special circles of the Pakistani military were behind all those attacks,” Mr Sediqi said, adding that the Pakistanis were working through the Haqqani network, one of the most vicious militant groups in Afghanistan.

“Suicide bombers are receiving their training in Pakistan. There are factories in Pakistan that are making bombs and explosives,” he said.

There was no immediate reaction from Islamabad, which has in the past denied such accusations from Kabul.

Elsewhere, Taliban guerillas killed at least 14 police in southern Helmand province after infiltrating a checkpoint disguised as officers in an official vehicle.
