Four inmates hurt at young offenders’ jail

FOUR INMATES have been injured during an incident at a young offenders’ institution in Staffordshire, the Ministry of Justice confirmed yesterday.

The ministry said that specially trained officers had been deployed to deal with “an incident of indiscipline” at Swinfen Hall, near Lichfield the day before.

The disturbance was restricted to a single wing of the facility, the ministry statement added.

During the incident, four prisoners received minor injuries, but no prison officers were hurt.

A small blaze on the wing was dealt with by firefighters.

A Prison Service spokesman said yesterday: “The incident was resolved at 0.07am today and the prison is operating as normal.”

Swinfen Hall has an operational capacity of 624 and holds young male adults serving sentences from four years to life.
