CAMPAIGNERS condemned US authorities yesterday after they revoked the charitable status of a faith-based solidarity group.

The Interreligious Foundation for Community Organisation (Ifco), which sends ­Pastors for Peace caravans to Cuba, believes its support for the Gaza Freedom Flotilla was the reason why.

“The attack by the US government to rescind our non-profit status is shocking and makes no sense in light of the significant moves of both the Obama and Castro administrations to normalise relations between our two countries,” said Ifco executive director Gail Walker.

“It is the height of hypocrisy for the US government to renew its attack on Ifco on the heels of the historic visit of Pope Francis, who pleaded for the nations of the world to work together.”
