NHS activists tackle Rennie for TTIP treaty assurances

Fife NHS campaigners marched on Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie’s office yesterday to ask his party to veto the inclusion of healthcare in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

Local People’s NHS activist Kevin Egan told the Morning Star that the dream EU-US pro-private deal threatens an “irreversible sell-off” of the NHS which could affect millions.

“We want the government to act now and get the NHS out of TTIP,” he said.

“We’ve built up fantastic support here with over 1,000 signatures on our petition to Willie Rennie who is the local MSP and leader of the Scottish Lib Dems.

“The other opposition parties — Labour, SNP and Greens — are all against the inclusion of health in the TTIP deal.

“We want Willie Rennie to demand that his party vetos the inclusion of our NHS in this neoliberal stitch-up and we will take our campaign across Scotland and to Westminster and Europe to get TTIP out of our NHS.”
