Crane drivers: bosses bullied us

CRANE drivers balloting on strike action over pay accused bosses yesterday of bullying by imposing a pay increase they have rejected.

The members of construction union Ucatt work for contractor HTC Plant and operate machines at some of Britain’s biggest construction sites.

They want their wages restored to the same value they had in 2008 but their employer has refused, ignoring the workers’ decision and instead imposing the deal they had rejected.

“HTC’s industrial relations resemble the attitude of a tin pot dictator,” said Ucatt general secretary Steve Murphy.

“They have totally misunderstood the strength of feeling among our members.

“By imposing a pay offer which fails to meet our member’s expectations, they have poked a hornet’s nest of ill feeling.”

“HTC need to drop the bully boy tactics and get back round the negotiating table.”

The ballot for industrial action closes on Monday October 27.
