JUSTICE: Solicitors yesterday won a High Court challenge over government reform of the legal aid system.

Two solicitors associations told Mr Justice Burnett that cuts made by Tory Justice Secretary Chris Grayling will cause ‘‘serious harm’’ to the criminal legal aid system and the criminal justice system.

The judge upheld the challenge and ordered Mr Grayling to “conduct a proper consultation” before his criminal legal aid ‘reform’ programme can proceed.

SUMMIT: Campaigners will march through central London this weekend to demand global action on climate change, in one of thousands of events worldwide ahead of a UN climate summit.

Some 2,000 events are taking place in 150 countries on Sunday, with upwards of 100,000 people expected to take to the streets of New York, where next week’s summit is being held.

MISHANDLING: Five serving detectives have been given misconduct notices and two former officers are being investigated over how they handled allegations relating to Jimmy Savile, the Independent Police Complaints Commission         said.

The watchdog said that inquiries are being made into how officers working for Sussex, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Surrey police forces dealt with claims about Savile’s predatory sexual behaviour.

CONFUSION: The owner of a Malvern boutique called Isis has been left astonished at terrorist slurs.

Jill Campbell has been forced to assure people the shop is not linked to extremists, after rumours started on social media.

Ms Campbell told Worcester News: “This is happening thousands of miles away, and yet my business in Malvern is being targeted, it’s bizarre.”
