COLOMBIA’S Revolutionary Alternative Force of the Common party (Comunes) — formerly known as Farc — has called for investigations after the killing of peace signatory Blanca Monroy last week.
The former guerilla fighter was gunned down on Thursday during a meeting in the Pereira district of the Latin American country.
She was the 36th of the peace accord’s signatories to be killed so far this year, according to the Institute for Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz).
Signed in 2016, the agreement saw Farc lay down its arms and enter parliament, bringing an end to more than five decades of war. But the killing of former guerilla fighters and social leaders has continued, with many pointing the finger at the government and state-backed paramilitary organisations.
Last week the Special Jurisdiction for Peace said that 283 former Farc members had been killed in Colombia since 2017.
Feminist groups joined Comunes in condemning the assassination and demanded a full independent investigation. Comunes Senator Sandra Ramirez called for an end to the “genocide,” insisting that the people of Colombia want peace.
