Murray sets up clash with Ferrer in China

Andy Murray further boosted his chances of qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals with a 7-5 6-2 win over Jerzy Janowicz at the Shanghai Masters yesterday.

The Scot eased into the last-16 of the tournament he won in 2010 and 2011 to continue his good form on the ATP’s China swing which saw him win in Shenzhen and get to the semi-finals of the China Open last week.

Murray moved himself up to ninth in the rankings with his performances in Shenzhen and Beijing as he aims for the top-eight spot that will see him qualify for the season-ending tournament in London next month.

Murray will now face David Ferrer, who he has beaten seven of their previous 12 battles and is expecting a tough test today.

“You need to play a high, high level to win against him,” he said.
